The Centre for Environment and Migration Assistance (CEMA) is inviting grassroots and community-based organizations to apply for its Climate Justice Small Grants under the Grassroots Climate Action Fund (GCAF).

The call focuses on supporting grassroots climate justice initiatives, strengthening community-led environmental accountability, amplifying the voices of marginalized and frontline communities, promoting inclusive and gender-responsive climate action, and encouraging innovative local solutions to environmental challenges, while prioritizing areas such as climate adaptation and resilience, environmental accountability and transparency, community environmental monitoring, climate finance tracking, ecosystem protection including wetlands, forests and biodiversity, and gender-responsive climate action.

Climate change continues to have a disproportionate impact on vulnerable communities, especially women, youth, and marginalized groups who often face barriers in accessing resources needed to respond effectively. Through this initiative, CEMA aims to address these challenges by supporting locally driven and innovative efforts that build resilience and promote environmental justice at the grassroots level.

The opportunity is open to a wide range of applicants, including community-based organizations, women-led groups, youth-led initiatives, grassroots civil society organizations, and local environmental justice movements. Unregistered groups are also eligible to apply, provided they can demonstrate legitimacy and strong community support.

Selected projects will receive grants ranging from USD 1,000 to 5,000, with an implementation period of three to twelve months. The fund supports activities such as community awareness and mobilization campaigns, environmental monitoring and reporting, advocacy and accountability initiatives, local climate adaptation actions, capacity building and training, and community-led conservation efforts.

This initiative reflects a strong commitment to empowering local communities to take leadership in addressing climate challenges and advancing sustainable, inclusive solutions tailored to their specific contexts.
