ESD Okayama Award 2026 III BB
Applications are now open for the ESD Okayama Award 2026, inviting organizations worldwide to showcase impactful Education for Sustainable Development initiatives.
The award focuses on addressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and poverty while promoting sustainable societies through Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), advancing “ESD for 2030,” and encouraging learning approaches that transform values, thinking, and behavior toward sustainability.
The ESD Okayama Award, organized by the ESD Okayama Award Steering Board and the City of Okayama, recognizes outstanding ESD projects from across the globe that demonstrate strong potential to serve as models for local and international communities. Since its establishment in 2015, the award has aimed to empower organizations and enhance the visibility and dissemination of effective ESD practices.
Eligible applicants must be organizations implementing ESD projects that have been active for at least three years as of April 2026, with demonstrated outcomes and documented impact. Only one application per organization is allowed, and previously awarded projects are not eligible to reapply, although organizations may submit different initiatives.
The award offers one or two prizes, each valued at USD 3,000, intended to support the further expansion and development of the winning projects. Applications must be submitted online through the official registration and application process, beginning with temporary registration and followed by completion of the application form.
Projects will be evaluated by ESD experts based on clearly defined criteria, including vision, collaboration, integration of economic, environmental, and social dimensions, innovation in approach, implementation track record, educational empowerment, and future scalability. Strong emphasis is placed on projects that demonstrate measurable impact, community engagement, and the ability to inspire behavioral and societal change.
